We shall not cease from exploring
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time
Taken from Four Quartets by T.S. Elliot
With the exception of The One, which always preserves his/her unity and nothing can go above it; everything that exists is a smaller part of something bigger. And from the moment in which any thing is created to the moment in which it ceases to exist, life advances in a cyclic manner with a pattern which is the same throughout the universe: The Pattern of the Triad. Rock and Roll is a process that has infinite levels, layers, or angles from which to approximate to it, but through added combinations and permutations its ‘Higher Purpose’ manages to sneak itself at the center of all of them: CHANGE THE WORLD. No more war, no more killing, no more injustice, no more hunger. Return to family, return to home, return to nature, return to the simple. Two bands are the embodiment of this higher calling more than any other: The Beatles and U2. Why? Because their art underwent a complete transformation. From the pure interpretation of the form from which it sprang it passed through several incarnations, finally arriving back to the place from where it started, with its soul enhanced and strengthened. Their art went away and came back, and that’s precisely the goal that Rock and Roll has taken upon itself, to bring us back, humans, from the fallen situation in which we are right now, back to our origin, when we were normal. What The Beatles and U2 have done serves as a smaller scale example of the journey that we have to undertake collectively in order to achieve that normality again. Remarkably, if you compare both careers the same shape of development can be traced: Triads. From the starting point until the ending, three stages are easily distinguishable in both careers, followed by the achievement of returning to their origin. Now, the need is there, for the music of a THIRD BAND to have a complete transformation as well; this would mean the fulfillment of the third and final part of the cycle. Along with this accomplishment a time will come when the ‘Higher Purpose’ of Rock and Roll will be met, which is mainly, to provide western civilization with a critical mass of people willing to embark in a journey of real self transformation, and whose efforts will be vital for the finding of the key that will unlock the puzzle of the current human exile.
